Yes -- I perhaps hadn't thought much about it in a long while either. You know as a young man, Merwin was at one point hired by Graves to tutor his own children -- on the island of Majorca. I used to have a volume of Graves' own collected poems, some of which I found interesting. But yeah -- his peculiar scholarship relating to (essentially) Moon Goddess worship (which he posited as an ancient religion underpinning both certain strands of olden European literature & -- I guess -- the poetic impulse within the psyche per se -- was a curiosity. Graves wrote The White Goddess back around the time Joseph Campbell was also brewing up his myth-besotted ideas. But mentioning Campbell also makes me think of Meredith Monk (who I think was Prof. Campbell's student at Vasser College in the '60s or so. That's a question mark. I once interviewed Meredith at her SoHo loft, back in the late '80s, but didn't think to ask her about that at the time). But I digress.
